Description

Little Giant Shiraz is crafted from fruit sourced from select premium vineyard in the Light Pass region of the Barossa Valley. Picked in the cool of the morning to retain freshness, the fruit is de-stemming and fermented in stainless steel tank. The wine then spent nine months in used large format French and American oak barrels to build structure whilst softening the palate and develop flavour complexity without overt extraction of oak characters.

2020 Vintage: Barossa Winemakers were happy with at the end of vintage citing a high-quality vintage and good yields. Growing season started off well with light rainfall. October and November saw dryer conditions with above average warmer ripening days seeing vine canopies prosper.Dry and warm at the start of the year with just enough rain to retain moisture ensured good even conditions followed by an auspicious Indian Summer with just the right balance of sunshine and rain.

Tasting Note: The Barossa Valley makes up the fruit source with typical plum, red licorice, chocolate and mocha characters whilst the addition of the spicier, elegant fruit of the cooler Eden Valley has added lift, interest and freshness. This is a contemporary Barossa Shiraz having spent maturation time in older oak adding subtle vanilla and earthy nuances. There’s so??ness on the finish while maintaining freshness and vibrancy. Pair with anything from the barbecue.

Barossa Valley Wine

The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.

A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.

Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
