Bierzo Wine

The DO Bierzo is located in the North-West of the province of Leõn and the wild  countryside has a climate that sits somewhere between the warm temperatures of the inland regions and the mild maritime influence of Galicia. The soils here are composed of fine, decomposed quartz and slate and it is a region where you will find plantings of Doña Blanca, Palomino, Malvasia and Godello for the white varieties and Mencia, Negra, Garnacha Tintorera, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo in the reds. It is a relatively new region with the DO officially recognized in 1989 but it is one of Spain’s most
exciting with pure, vibrant whites and robust reds of great character and verve.
